Being one of the first-run Featherweights commissioned in the factory on October 3, 1933 – specifically, this machine has several unique/distinctive characteristics. Singer made several slight cosmetic changes throughout the production of the model 221 but this is generally what they looked like in the beginning. Some of the distinctives of a Featherweight produced this early are the bed-stop located on the back of the machine and the back arm decal. These and other features like the school bell bobbin winder tension unit, the split base under the terminal and the non-swinging gib hook evolved over the next couple of years until the more common characteristics were developed.
This Featherweight first arrived to us in very poor condition, and because it is such an early Featherweight, we made the decision to restore it back to gloss black. The choice to restore a sought-after machine like this one in black greatly increased its value and appeal, as the traditional look has been maintained. Each one of our restored and repainted Featherweights receives hours of personal care in its disassembly, painting process, reassembly, stitch sampling and overall preparation for each and every customer.
To guarantee the authenticity of this restoration, we took photos showing the machine, and the location of the back arm decal, and those photos can be seen in this listing. To protect the future buyer, we have covered up the last number of the serial number in the photos, but the intricacies in the stamping of each number can be identified in both the before and after photos.
