Singer Featherweight 221 Sewing Machine, AF384*** – Top Decal and Corduroy Insert – RARE The Singer Featherweight Shop

We are very excited to add this unique and lovely Featherweight 221 to the site.  Completely serviced, cleaned, polished, electrically inspected, timed, tuned and sampled – rest assured, this Featherweight 221 will be ready to sew right out of the case.  Powerful original 110v motor with a quiet, smooth stitch.

AF384*** indicates an original production commission date of December 5th, 1939 and is given a Grade 8.  Be sure to click on any image to view the reflective beauty of this Singer Featherweight machine.  Machine is in truly in gorgeous condition with just a slight imperfection in the clearcoat near the back of the needle plate.  It was difficult to capture in the photographs, actually.  Shine is Beautiful!  

What makes this Featherweight special?

Right from the start you probably noticed the distinctive characteristics of this 221.  It has the extremely desirable type II corduroy case insert from the late 1930s.  The insert with this machine did not come with this Featherweight originally, but it is 100% correct for the time period.  It also has the Singer decal on top of the arm instead of on the light housing.  The placement of this decal was seen on a select few Featherweights mainly in 1939.  Our best guess here in the shop is that the Singer employee who installed the decals on the sewing machines was stuck all day doing decals on the Singer 66, 201, and 15 machines…here comes the Featherweight…whoops!!!  The decal got put in the wrong spot.  Both of these characteristics are quite unique, and set this Featherweight apart from many others.

You can also rest knowing that the Original Bobbin Case is most definitely included, assuring you of an original quality stitch all these years later.  It is a delightful thought to think about some of the possible things that were lovingly sewn on this machine in its lifetime.  What will you add to its sewing repertoire – quilts? Machine has been serviced and calibrated for quilter’s cottons, so you won’t have to worry about tension when you receive your machine, but having a numbered tension dial will make it easier to set it back should you need to adjust it for any reason.

You will notice that this machine is fitted with a scrolled faceplate and the original case includes the tray for holding the box of attachments, manual, etc..
