What makes this Featherweight unique?
This Featherweight is distinguished by the M.R. decal below the badge and the Singer Manufacturing Company Decal. What is M.R and why does it make this Featherweight rare? – During the late 1940s and very early 1950s, Singer sent a few Featherweights to be sold in Spanish and Portuguese speaking markets primarily in South America. The very few machines that were sold or intended to be sold there were marked with the M.R. decal to trademark the “Singer” name in those foreign countries. M.R. stands for Marcas Registradas which translates from Portuguese to “Registered Trademark”. You can still find the M.R. symbol today often on Coca-Cola products bottled in Mexico. This rare decal has been seen on Featherweights manufactured in the U.S. and the U.K., and most seen were fitted with motors made in Canada.
We have also included a very rare M.R. black wrinkle attachment box. We have only seen a few with this Matching M.R. stamp.
When we first received this machine, it was in very poor condition. (See photos marked ‘before restoration’ for detail.) Knowing the rarity of a machine with this decal, we decided to give it a complete restoration. Each one of our restored and repainted Featherweights receives hours of personal care in its disassembly, painting process, reassembly, stitch sampling and overall preparation for each and every customer.
To guarantee the authenticity of this restoration, we took photos showing the machine, the decal, and the motor before restoration, and those photos can be seen in this listing.
